Muhammad Ali, 'The Greatest of All Time', Dies at 74

This is a little tribute to the legend and to start with his beginning in life and the start of his career...

Muhammad Ali born Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr., January 17, 1942 – June 3, 2016) was an American professional boxer. Early in his career, Ali was known for being an inspiring, controversial and polarizing figure both inside and outside the boxing ring.

Clay was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and he began training when he was 12 years old. At 22, he won the world heavyweight championship from Sonny Liston in an upset in 1964. Shortly after that, Clay joined the Nation of Islam, changed his "slave" name to Ali, and gave a message of black pride for African Americans and resistance to white domination. He converted to Sunni Islam in 1975, and then embraced the teachings of Sufism in 2005. Ali retired from boxing permanently in 1981.

In 1967, three years after winning the heavyweight title, Ali further antagonized the white establishment by refusing to be conscripted into the U.S. military, citing his religious beliefs and opposition to American involvement in the Vietnam War. He was eventually arrested and found guilty of draft evasion charges and stripped of his boxing titles, which he successfully appealed in the U.S. Supreme Court where, in 1971, his conviction was overturned. Due to this hiatus, he had not fought again for nearly four years — losing a time of peak performance as an athlete. Ali's actions as a conscientious objector to the war made him an icon for the larger counterculture generation.

Ali remains the only three-time lineal world heavyweight champion; he won the title in 1964, 1974, and 1978. Between February 25, 1964, and September 19, 1964, Ali reigned as the heavyweight boxing champion. Nicknamed "The Greatest", he was involved in several historic boxing matches.[12] Notable among these were the first Liston fight, three with rival Joe Frazier, and "The Rumble in the Jungle" with George Foreman, in which he regained titles he had been stripped of seven years earlier.

At a time when most fighters let their managers do the talking, Ali, inspired by professional wrestler "Gorgeous George" Wagner, thrived in — and indeed craved — the spotlight, where he was often provocative and outlandish.

How he died....

Ali had been at Honor-health Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center in Scottsdale since Thursday with what spokesman Bob Gunnell had described as a respiratory issue.
"After a 32-year battle with Parkinson's disease, Muhammad Ali has passed away at the age of 74. The three-time World Heavyweight Champion boxer died this evening," Gunnell said in a statement. "The Ali family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and support and asks for privacy at this time."
Ali's daughter Hana Ali said her father was a "humble mountain."
"And now he has gone home to God. God bless you daddy. YOU ARE THE LOVE OF MY LIFE!" she tweeted.

Even the youngest heavy boxer Mike Tyson tweeted about the demise of this great man and this had to say:

No doubt the world has lost a great man, a great boxer, a fine gentleman and above all the greatest of all time. So before I wrap this blog off, here are some of his famous quotes... Thanks ya'll.

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.
He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.
The man who views the world at 50 the same as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life

The Rio Carnival 2015(sights sounds and info)

In Brazil, it’s jokingly said that the year only really begins after Carnaval, the annual five-day festival before Ash Wednesday that marks the beginning of Lent. Brazilians take Carnaval seriously: most of the country shuts down to take part in the festivities and some participants begin planning their costumes and events up to a year in advance. The cities of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Vitória are known for giant parades led by samba schools, which bring in millions of viewers in person and through televised broadcasts. Smaller parades, or blocinhos, are also very popular as anyone can join in the parade as it progresses.
In the northeast, Carnaval is heavily influenced by Afro-Brazilian culture—and especially by its music. Huge crowds follow trucks blasting live music performances from famous Brazilian stars. This year’s singers include Claudia Leitte (@claudialeitte), Ivete Sangalo (@veveta), Gilberto Gil (@gilbertogil), Preta Gil (@pretagil) and Daniela Mercury (@danielamercury).

Here are some pictures from the 2015 carnival, hope you enjoy it and if you are in Brazil currently we hope you had fun!

Nigerians Can Now Send Money Out Via Western Union.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in collaboration with Western Union Company and First Bank Plc, on Friday, launched out-bound remittance service to enable Nigerians to transfer money around the world.

At the ceremony in Abuja, CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, said that the project was in line with the bank’s policy to transform payment landscape in Nigeria.

Emefiele said that the initiative was targeted at remittances by individuals to dependants, including children, leaving abroad and for other person-to-person needs.
He said that the system would also simplify money transfer process in Nigeria.

“Western Union Company is well known as international electronic payment transfer service provider with a wide range of products and global coverage.

“Since the commencement of the inward money transfer service in 1995, which was pioneered by this same company, the payment landscape in Nigeria has significantly transformed,’’ he said.

The CBN boss said that in-bound money transfer services had been in operation in Nigeria, and were dominated by Western Union, Royale Finance and Moneygram.

“Today, out-bound money services is being launched to provide an alternative channel of foreign exchange transfer to serve the needs of small foreign exchange end users .

“Simultaneously, it reduces the foreign exchange sourced from official foreign exchange window in Nigeria and to a large extent, helps to conserve our foreign exchange,’’ he said.

He explained that under the initiative, a prospective customer, who wished to use the service, would only pay Naira equivalent to the money transfer operators for the foreign currency that would be paid to the specified beneficiary abroad.
According to him, this will end the idea of going to the Bureau de Change or banks to buy foreign currency before transferring money abroad.

“If you have need to make payment to your children, brothers and sisters living abroad that need small financial support, all you need to do is to take your cash to any of the 5,000 Western Union outlets in Nigeria.

“We are working very hard to ensure that the number of outlets increases further from 5,000.

“We have also agreed with Western Union about the need for them to work with Bureau de Change (BDC) operators that are well structured,” he said.

Emefiele said that apex bank was also working hard to make the BDC business robust for operators in the sector.

He said that the out-bound transfer service would only be conducted by international monetary service operators, adding that banks and BDCs that met the new CBN requirements would serve as agents for money transfer service.

He stated that bank accounts were not required to transfer funds and that transactions point would be within the reach of customers.

“We will allow cash, but going forward, we will discuss with operators of mobile telephones so that those on the mobile payment platform can transfer money from their accounts via western union to anybody abroad.

“These are some of the efforts we are making because we are embracing cashless transactions,’’ he said. Emefiele, however, disclosed that CBN had put measures in place to check foreign currency being taken out of the country, saying that the step would help to manage the nation’s foreign reserve. He said that guidelines on the measure will soon be released.

He said that the apex bank had been working with relevant agencies to look at reasons for movement of cash out of the country. He urged stakeholders to use all the channels available to transfer money and avoid carrying of foreign currency out of the country.

Emefiele explained that CBN had increased the allowable limit for credit and debit cards from 40,000 dollars to 450,000 dollars per annum.

He assured that the CBN would continue to provide effective leadership in the payment system transformation in line with the aspirations of the Federal Government.
